Last year, 7 billion rupees worth of diabetes medicine was consumed.

Non-communicable diseases are common among many people today, and sports and exercise can be used as a remedy for this situation, says Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

He said this while participating in the opening of the Sports and Exercise Medicine Unit at the Karapitiya National Hospital.

The Minister said that the government spent approximately 7.3 billion rupees on diabetes-related medicines, including insulin, last year. The Minister also pointed out that this cost is continuously increasing.

Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized that more attention should be paid to preventing them, rather than relying solely on treasury funds for medicines.
