Here is how Sarana Gunawardena is serving her 72-year prison sentence.

The court has issued an explanation to all journalists who reported on Sarana Gunawardena’s verdict.

According to the clarification, although he was sentenced to 72 years in prison in relation to the 4 corruption cases, it is scheduled to be served concurrently in 16 years. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 1.8 million on him.

In 2006, while serving as the Chairman of the Development Lottery Board, the Bribery Commission filed four cases against Sarana Gunawardena for causing losses to the government by acting in a manner that benefited the owners of three vehicles while obtaining them on a rental basis. He has been sentenced to this sentence according to the verdict in those four cases.
