With the approval of the Cabinet, an expert committee has been appointed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy to obtain appropriate recommendations for amending the Electricity Bill No. 36 of 2024.
The committee has taken steps to consult the views of key stakeholders in the electricity sector.
Accordingly, information exchange sessions have been held and written views and suggestions have been obtained, and 59 stakeholders have submitted their views and suggestions in writing.
In addition, views have been obtained from development partners who provide funds for development projects in the electricity sector as well as other parties interested in restructuring the electricity sector.
Taking into account the said views and suggestions, the expert committee has submitted its final report including the proposed amendments to the Electricity Bill No. 36 of 2024.
Based on the recommendations contained in the said report, the proposal submitted by the Minister of Energy to prepare a draft bill to amend the Electricity Act was approved by the Cabinet.
