The United Republican Front has alleged that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake violated election laws during his speech at an election campaign rally in Weligama on March 31.
The complaint has pointed out that the President’s statement during the speech that the central government would only provide funds to the winning Pradeshiya Sabhas that do not engage in fraud or corruption, and that only the National People’s Power had such groups, is a violation of election laws.
The Executive President, using his power directly, is saying that the central government will only provide support to his group. The complaint points out that it is an obstacle to the free decision-making of the electorate. The complaint states that it is a decision not to provide it.
In the letter, the United Republican Front points out that it is an injustice to the President of the country to name future MPs who are not members of the National People’s power as corrupt without any investigation. Therefore, the United Republican Front requests in the letter that the President, as a party leader, act in accordance with the provisions of the Independent Election Commission regarding such statements.
The United Republican Front submitted this complaint to the Election Commission yesterday (02).
