It was revealed in copa committee that nearly 33% of the families receiving the Samurdhi benefit are families who should not be entitled to the Samurdhi benefit. Also, it was found that almost 30% of the families who should be entitled to the above benefit are not entitled to those benefits.
According to a survey covering the entire island from 2015 to 2017, this information has been identified and it has been revealed that 449,979 families should be removed from the Samurdhi subsidy.
This was revealed when the Committee on Government Accounts met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Minister of State Mr. Lasantha Alagiyawanna to review the matters included in the reports of the Auditor General for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 and the current performance of the Samurdhi Development Department.
