A former UNP Horana Municipal Councillor who was arrested by Mirihana Police in connection with an incident of defrauding six textile businessmen in the Pettah area of nearly 160 million rupees has been produced before the Wattala Police and remanded until the 21st of this month.
It is reported that the suspect had cheated these businessmen by issuing cheques without money in her bank account. She had been avoiding these businessmen for a long time, and it is reported that the relevant businessmen had gone to the Sirikotha party headquarters last Saturday (18) on information that she had visited the place and met her.
A heated situation had arisen between the suspect MP and the businessmen. The Mirihana Police, who intervened to quell the situation, have arrested all those involved in the incident. After handing over the suspect MP to the Wattala Police, she was produced before Wattala Acting Magistrate Meryl Botej yesterday and remanded until the 21st.
