European countries to send dog teams to search for bodies buried in landslides

Sri Lanka has reportedly requested the European Union to provide a team of dogs to help search for bodies buried in landslides caused by Cyclone Ditva.

Cyclone Ditva made landfall on November 28, bringing unprecedented rainfall of up to 500 mm in some places.

More than 600 people have died in landslides and floods, while many more are missing in the central hill districts.

A Disaster Management Center official told the media that search operations are underway to find the bodies of those presumed dead after the landslides. He said that the European Union has requested several dogs specially trained for such tasks.
