The Ministry of Labor has reportedly decided to amend the Employees’ Provident Fund Act.
The Ministry of Labor further states that these amendments are to be made with the aim of providing convenience and greater benefits to members.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry says that the proposed amendments aim to bring the surcharge and surcharge collection mechanism to a more effective state, provide credit facilities to its members through the Employees’ Provident Fund instead of commercial banks, and eliminate inequalities in the rights of both male and female workers.
Special attention was paid to this matter at the Labor Advisory Council yesterday (30). The Minister of Labour, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, and Deputy Minister of Labour, Mahinda Jayasinghe, as well as representatives of the Sri Lanka Employers’ Federation and the Trade Unions, were also present at the event.
