Electricity generation at Norochcholai Power Plant is declining.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that electricity generation at the Norochcholai Power Plant has decreased by 180 megawatts on the 22nd due to the use of substandard coal.

Speaking at a meeting held on the problems in the education sector, he said that behind this irregular process lies large-scale corruption led by the current government.

He alleged that the President, the Cabinet and the Minister in charge of the subject should take full responsibility for this.

The Opposition Leader explained that the Public Utilities Commission has indicated that there may be power cuts in the coming months due to maintenance work at several power plants and that fuel-fired power plants will have to be operated to replace the electricity lost due to substandard coal.
