The National Election Commission has issued a notice to political parties and independent groups regarding the rejected nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections
If legal action has been taken against the rejection of nomination papers submitted to contest the Local Government Elections, the Election Commission has requested the secretaries and authorized representatives of political parties and independent groups to provide copies of the relevant petitions and decisions.
Political parties and independent groups have been requested to submit copies of the said petitions and decisions to the District Election Offices of the relevant districts.
Several nominations submitted for the elections scheduled to be held on May 6, 2025 were rejected on the grounds of not submitting certified copies of birth certificates, not taking formal oaths and submitting only photocopies of birth certificates.
However, the Court of Appeal ordered the acceptance of more than 70 previously rejected nominations.
However, the Supreme Court also rejected more than 50 petitions filed challenging the rejection of nomination papers for the 2025 local government elections.
