PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi says that the campaigning for the local government elections is going on mostly peacefully so far.
He says that despite over 71,000 candidates contesting, the police have received only 200 complaints. Among these complaints are 13 violent incidents. An incident of an attack on a candidate in the Deraniyagala area is among the incidents and one person has been arrested in connection with it.
He says that the police have arrested 15 candidates and 52 party supporters in connection with election-related complaints.
Appreciating the prompt response of law enforcement officers, PAFFREL Chairman Rohana Hettiarachchi said that there were no reports of attempts to bribe voters during the New Year period.
