The suspect, who is said to be involved in the shooting incident of a retired prison superintendent of Boossa Prison, was arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department this morning while attempting to leave the country through the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The suspect was reportedly arrested at the departure terminal with the help of the ‘facial recognition system’ installed at the airport by the CID. The suspect was reportedly arrested while preparing to board Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL-404 to Bangkok, Thailand, using a fake passport.
The person arrested is a 31-year-old man named Wijemuni Lalantha Prithiraj Kumara, a resident of the Kuliyawatta area in Ambalangoda. The suspect is reported to be a shooter and close associate of the leader of an organized crime gang in the Southern Province known as ‘Karandeniya Sudda’.
