People should buy only mobile phones approved by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), said M. Pathirana the Deputy Director of the Commission.
She asked customers to check the IMEI number to ensure that the phone they are looking to buy is TRCSL approved.
The IMEI number is displayed on the cover of the mobile phone box. People can check the validity of IMEI number by sending a SMS . Type IMEI space 15 digit of IMEI number and send it to 1909 by SMS. You will get an instant reply message whether the mobile is registered or not.
