It is reported that the Divisional Secretaries have faced many problems due to the contradictory statements made by the Ministers and the lack of proper guidelines from the government when providing compensation for houses damaged due to the disaster situation and houses at risk of landslides.
Taking this situation into consideration, the Sri Lanka Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries Association has sent a letter to the Defense Secretary, stating what guidelines should be followed in providing compensation and how the compensation should be provided in each case of damage and requesting him to issue guidelines immediately.
The relevant letter was sent on January 12, 2026 and copies of the letter have been sent to the Secretary to the President and the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Auditor General and all District Secretaries.
