The Registrar General’s Department is working to issue death certificates for 203 people who have gone missing in floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditva.
Commenting on this, Registrar General Sasidevi Jaladeepan said that these death certificates are being issued in accordance with the gazette notification issued on December 2, which allows for the issuance of death certificates for people who have been missing for a fortnight after such an incident, and that this will expedite the compensation payment mechanism.
She said that the Grama Niladhari of the division must confirm that a person is missing after the floods and landslides and then the District Deputy Registrar General will issue the death certificate. If there is no objection, the relevant application will be approved by the Divisional Secretary expeditiously, she said.
Death certificates have already been issued for 126 of the 611 people who died in the floods and landslides, says Registrar General Sasidevi Jaladeepan.
