The Court of Appeal has ordered the adjournment of the writ petition filed seeking an order to prevent the demolition of a portion of the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya premises in Trincomalee until December 16.
The Director General of the Coastal Conservation Department, the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and the Minister of Environment have been named as respondents in this petition.
The petition states that this temple was officially registered under the Amarapura Nikaya in 1951 under the Buddhist Temple Property Ordinance.
The petition further states that during the tenure of the then Chief Incumbent, Venerable Mahinda Wansathissa Thero, a valid deed was granted to this temple by the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 6th June 2014.
