Constitutional Council hidden the information

The Constitutional Council has refused to provide information to parties who requested information under the Right to Information Act No. 12 of 2016 regarding the decision made on the nomination of the President for the position of Auditor General.

Attorney-at-Law Azath Atham Lebbe has requested the total number of members of the Constitutional Council as well as the names of members who voted for, against or abstained from voting on the nomination of Army Officer O. R. Rajasinghe under the Freedom of Information Act, but the request has been denied.

Responding to the request, the Information Officer of the Constitutional Council has stated that information on the total number of members and their positions is already available on the official website of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

In addition, the Council has refused to disclose the names of members who voted for or against Army Officer O. R. Rajasinghe, citing Section 5(1)(g) of the Right to Information Act No. 12 of 2016 as the basis for the rejection.
