Chinese ships pose a risk of straining Indo-Lanka relations

India is ready to protest if a Chinese research vessel enters Sri Lankan waters.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had assured India that Sri Lankan waters would not be used for any purpose that would affect India’s security, and diplomatic sources say that India expects that it will act accordingly.

Diplomatic sources also reveal that India is ready to take every step to prevent a Chinese research vessel from entering Sri Lankan waters in any way.

A senior diplomat at the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has recently stated to several journalists that if a Chinese research vessel attempts to enter Sri Lankan waters, it will not hesitate to protest.
