A suspect who was arrested for illegally possessing and selling protected wildlife parts at a jewelry store in the Kitulgala tourist town has been found guilty of 38 charges against him. He has been fined Rs. 2.1 million (2.1 million).
The suspect was produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate’s Court on June 24, 2026, facing 38 charges under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
When the case was taken up today, the suspect pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. The Ruwanwella Magistrate, acting accordingly, imposed a fine of Rs. 2.1 million and allowed the amount to be paid in three installments within a period of three months.
The court has ordered that the first installment be paid on or before August 05, 2026.
The suspect was arrested in a joint raid conducted by officers from the Assistant Director of Wildlife and the Bulathkohupitiya Site Security Office.
