A motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a road accident that occurred in the Haldaduwana area on the B 419 main road in Koswatta Police Division this morning has died on admission to the Dankotuwa Hospital. The deceased is a 65-year-old resident of Wennappuwa, Pathahawatta.
The accident occurred when the driver of the motor vehicle traveling from Madampe towards Thoppuwa fell asleep and collided with the motor vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
It is reported that the motor vehicle that caused the accident was being driven by National People’s Power MP Mohamed Faisal, and the vehicle was being driven by his brother. The MP was on his way to attend today’s parliamentary session. Investigations conducted so far have revealed that the accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep.
The body has been kept at the Dankotuwa Hospital morgue and the MP’s brother, who was driving the vehicle, has been arrested by the police.
