A low pressure area may form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal, said Director General of the Meteorological Department Athula Karunanayake.
The system is slowly developing and is moving westwards and northwestwards.
It is expected to move towards the Tamil Nadu coast near the north of the island in the next few days, he said.
He added that it is very important to pay close attention to the future announcements regarding the system.
