Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith of Colombo has been selected among the twelve cardinals eligible to elect the next pope.
The new pope is elected by secret ballot by cardinals from around the world who come to the Vatican and cast their votes. The cardinal who receives a 2/3 majority of the cardinals eligible to vote becomes the next pope. Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has been recommended for the position before.
