A quarter of Anura’s term is over.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who was sworn in as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka on 22 September 2024, will complete a quarter of his term (15 months) today (22 December 2025).

According to the Constitution of Sri Lanka, the term of office of an Executive President is five years. If calculated in months, it is 60 months. Accordingly, he has 75% or 45 months left in his term.

Over the past 15 months, the new government has held parliamentary general elections, established a stable government, and laid the foundation for economic reforms.

According to the provisions of the Constitution, the next presidential election must be held no later than two months and no later than one month before the end of a president’s term. Accordingly, the current president’s term is scheduled to end in September 2029.
