It has been proposed to allocate 3 acres of land from the land that does not belong to the archaeological reserve area where the Kurundi Rajamaha Viharaya is located for the construction of a Buddhist temple and a Hindu temple.
This proposal was presented to the Sectoral Monitoring Committee on Religious Affairs and Coexistence by Buddha Sasana, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Somaratne Vidanapathirana. The Secretary of the Ministry who spoke said that the land where Kurundi Viharaya is located belongs to every Sri Lankan archaeologically.
The Ministry of Religious and Cultural Affairs of the Buddha Sasana has presented several proposals to the Sectoral Monitoring Committee as solutions to the problems that have arisen in connection with the Kurundi Rajamaha Temple.
The Director General of Archeology who spoke here said that according to the gazette issued last year 2013, 229 acres belong to the archaeological reserve area around the Kurundi Rajamaha Temple.
She said that the entire area has been designated as a scientific reserve based on the monuments identified through GPS technology.
