A person who was suspended for financial fraud while working at the State Fertilizer Company is currently serving as a cabinet minister under the new government, said opposition MP Shanakyan Rasamanikkam.
Addressing Parliament yesterday, he said that the person is now sitting in the front row of Parliament and that he does not wish to name the person.
He further stated that the person has been accused of financial crimes at the State Fertilizer Company during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s tenure as Minister of Agriculture.
MP Shanakyan further stated that it is normal for the opposition to be concerned and suspicious about whether corruption continues when such individuals are given important government roles and sit in Parliament.
He made this statement while discussing the government’s decision on renewable energy projects and the issues surrounding the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Electricity Board.
