The Deputy Minister noted that the criminal-minded opposition has suffered a setback due to the ascent of a pro-people government; he pointed out that even the faction led by Ranil Wickremesinghe—which once loudly accused others of theft now laments the imprisonment of Namal. However, Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara observed that there are still people cheering for Namal even as he is transported to Welikada Prison in the prison bus.
He stated that decisions regarding the 22nd Amendment would be made in Parliament in accordance with the people’s mandate, and that the bill would be passed following the court’s ruling, thereby helping to prevent the delays that have plagued cases for years.
He further mentioned that, as the National People’s Power (NPP) is a pro-people government, they engage with the public even when there is no election, which is the reason behind the series of meetings being held across the country.
