Immigration Controller General Harsha Ilukpitiya says that due to the Supreme Court imposing an interim order suspending the issuance of online visas, it is impossible to issue online visas.
He added in a statement to the ‘Lankadeepa’ website (lankadeepa.lk) this afternoon (2) that the court order will have to be respected.
However, since the Supreme Court has not yet received the interim injunction order, the Immigration Controller cannot say with certainty about the next course of action. He also mentioned that he will discuss this situation with the minister in charge of the subject, Tiran Alas.
He further stated that there is an uncertain situation regarding the issuance of visas from today, and if this continues, the reputation of the country as well as the economy will be severely damaged.
