A bus carrying 23 passengers was caught in a flood this morning in the Kumbukkana area on the Monaragala-Colombo main road. The accident occurred when the bus tried to cross a bridge that was submerged in floodwaters.
It is reported that the road surface was about 6 feet at the time and the bus, which was swept away by the floodwaters, was pulled out using a tractor. There were 23 passengers on the bus when the accident occurred. All passengers were rescued safely, police said.
The accident occurred on a bus traveling from Monaragala to Colombo.
Police said that the water level had risen to about six feet when the bus was trying to cross a bridge near the Ranga Hotel.
The bus was pulled to a safe place with the help of a tractor in the area.
Police say that all 23 passengers survived without any injuries.
