The special three-judge High Court bench in Colombo has imposed sentences of rigorous imprisonment exceeding 200 years on 15 individuals convicted in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.
Furthermore, the bench ordered the confiscation of all movable and immovable property belonging to the convicted individuals.
Rigorous imprisonment sentences were handed down as follows: five defendants were sentenced to 200 years each, another five to 220 years each, four defendants to 240 years each, and one defendant to 260 years.
Cases had been filed against 24 defendants on over 23,270 charges—including conspiracy and aiding and abetting—related to the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
The case was heard by a three-judge High Court bench comprising A. Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan, and Sujeewa Nissanka. Those named as guilty and sentenced are: Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Naufer (alias Naufer Moulavi), Mohamed Saribu Adam Lebbe (alias Abu Hadik), Hayathu Mohamed Ahmed Milhan (alias Abu Silla), Mohamed Ibrahim Sadik Abdullah (alias Abu Umar), Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Haq (alias Abu Falah), Mohamed Anwar Mohamed Riskan (alias Abu Tariq), Mohamed Mansoor Mohamed Sanasdeen (alias Abu Mizan), Abdul Manaf Mohamed Firdous, Mohamed Rameesh Mohamed Sarik, Abdul Latheef Mohamed Safi (alias Safi Moulavi), Husainul Rizvi Mohamed Kahir Sameer, Mohamed Hanifa Zainul Abdeen (alias Abu Hina), Mohamed Mustafa Mohamed Haris (alias Abu Nanjiyar), Razik Raza Hussain, and Katchi Mohamed Jasmin.
Additionally, the remaining nine defendants—Mohamed Zaheer Mohamed Hasan (alias Abu Dawood), Mohamed Iftikar Mohamed Insaf (alias Abu), Rasheed Mohamed Ibrahim, Zainul Abdeen Mohamed Jaseem, Mohamed Mustafa Mohamed Rizwan, Meera Sahib Mohamed Nafli (alias Abu Sana), Mohamed Ameer Mohamed Ayathullah, Mohamed Ansardeen Mohamed Ilmi, and Mohamed Akram Ahakkam—have been acquitted and released.
Yasin Bawa Abdul Rauf, who was among the accused, passed away while in prison custody during the trial.
