Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe has objected to the circular issued recently prohibiting school teachers in the Western Province from conducting paid tuition classes for students in their schools.
The ban applies during school hours, after school, and on weekends or public holidays.
Deputy Minister Jayasinghe stated that the Governor has instructed to suspend the circular until a review and policy decision is taken on the relevant issue.
The circular, signed by Western Provincial Education Secretary K.A.D.R. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, has been sent to the Director of Education, Regional Directors, Divisional Directors of Education and all school principals in the province.
The institution has instructed all teachers to be aware of the regulations and has also warned that disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate them.
