The body of a foreigner washed ashore at the Parana Kade beach in Weligama has been identified as that of a Tunisian national who went missing while surfing at the Parana Kade beach on Saturday afternoon, Weligama Police said.
Police said the 21-year-old tourist was swept away by a rip current caused by strong winds.
A special operation was launched by the police lifeguards, the Coast Guard and private divers following the incident, but the operation was hampered by rough sea conditions.
