The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crimes Division at the Homagama Police Station was arrested today (28) by the Western Province South Crimes Division in connection with the death of a young man who was assaulted while in police custody.
Prior to his arrest, the OIC along with a Sub-Inspector and a Police Sergeant had already been interdicted (suspended from service) in relation to this incident.
The arrest followed the death of a suspect who had been detained in a cell at the Homagama Police Station over drug-related allegations after an inquest revealed that he had been subjected to physical assault.
