The Department of Wildlife Conservation states that a decision has been made to transport an ailing elephant calf from the Wewalketiya area in Medawachchiya to Udawalawe for further medical treatment.
Accordingly, the Department of Wildlife Conservation has stated on its social media page that the elephant calf which was undergoing treatment by officials from the Pandulagama Wildlife Veterinary Unit has been transported to the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home for further care. However, no details regarding the calf’s health condition or the cause of its illness have been provided.
