The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Air Marshal (Retd.) Thushara Fernando, stated that the registration of motorcycles with an engine capacity of 48cc or less than 50cc is mandatory.
The Commissioner General further clarified that claims by certain motorcycle dealers suggesting that motorcycles in this category do not require registration are incorrect.
Consequently, he advised consumers to ensure that any such motorcycles they purchase are accompanied by valid customs documentation. He further warned that if unregistered motorcycles of this type are found being operated on public roads, the police will take legal action.
He made these remarks during a press conference held today (22).
