Gampaha Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne has referred the case file regarding the initiation of legal proceedings against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for contempt of court to the President of the Court of Appeal.
This follows a determination that the IGP has committed contempt of court by failing to implement court orders.
The decision to initiate these proceedings stems from the finding that the IGP has undermined the authority of the court by failing to comply with orders issued in relation to two drug-related cases; it further appears that the IGP has attempted to mislead the court.
