Mahinda Kahandagama, beaten by protesters while defending the Rajapaksas reportedly does not belong to the ‘Pohottuwa’

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) states that no disciplinary action can be taken against Mahinda Kahandagama, as he has never been a member of the party.

Responding to media inquiries regarding whether the party intends to take action against Kahandagama, a party representative noted that there has been some confusion concerning his political affiliation.

The spokesperson explained that although Kahandagama contested the election under the ‘Pohottuwa’ (Bud) symbol utilizing a quota allocated to the party through its alliance with Vasudeva Nanayakkara’s party disciplinary action cannot be taken against an individual who is not a direct member of the SLPP. The SLPP further stated that Vasudeva Nanayakkara himself is a member of the Nava Sama Samaja Party, not the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
