“Madhuwa,” who plotted to kill the police informant responsible for the seizure of narcotics worth Rs. 5 billion, has been arrested.

An individual known as “Madhuwa”—who attempted to assassinate the police informant that provided the tip-off leading to the seizure of 325 kg of “Ice” (crystal methamphetamine) valued at over Rs. 5 billion—has been arrested in the Sella Kataragama area.

Two other individuals were also arrested alongside him by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force. These two individuals were apprehended while hiding secretly in a shop unit opposite the Lakshmi Devalaya in Sella Kataragama.

The main suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Madhuka Chamara, alias “Madhuwa,” a resident of Wellampitiya; police state that he is a close associate of organized criminals “Angoda Priyankara” and “Ruban.” Police recovered two manna knives—planned for use in the assassination of the undercover operative along with 8 grams of heroin and documents related to a fake number plate affixed to a jeep resembling a police vehicle.

Police stated that the undercover operative had provided the information that led to the raid, which was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala.
