A person known as a music master has been arrested by the Matale Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit while he was involved in a racket of retail distribution of ‘Ice’ worth over Rs. 7 million in Matale and nearby areas under a different name.
In this raid conducted early yesterday morning targeting a rented house in the Dombadeniya area, 50 milligrams of the drug Ice, two mobile phones and 6 SIM cards were seized by the police. This stock of Ice was carefully hidden in a small safe box made of wood that was very artistically carved. The police officers found this secret wooden box with carvings while searching a room in the house that was full of dust and cobwebs.
This suspect, a major drug trafficker who has been sentenced by the High Court and has drug cases pending in several courts across the island, has been acting strategically to evade the law. The police also say that he has not lived in one house for more than a few months.
The Matale Police are conducting further investigations into whether the suspect has had any connections with major drug traffickers in the country.
