President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that a new uniform will be introduced for the police as part of the modernization program of the Sri Lanka Police Service.
The President said that discussions have already been held with the Inspector General of Police regarding changing the existing police uniform to better suit the needs of a modern police service, and the government plans to introduce a new uniform for the police by mid-2027.
The proposed new uniform will be designed to enable a modern police officer to easily wear the necessary tools, including body cameras, batons, flashlights, handcuffs and other essential equipment.
The President also said that he has instructed the Inspector General of Police to engage a professional fashion design firm to design a new uniform.
