Railway employees are banned from social media.

The Department of Railways has issued a special circular today (26) regarding the use of social media during working hours and preventing the sharing of sensitive information about railway operations. According to this circular which has been issued with the signature of the General Manager of Railways, it has been mentioned that strict legal action will be taken against the employees who violate the rules laid down by it.

The Sri Lanka Railway Department says that this circular has been issued as it has been recognized that some sensitive information related to the department has recently been shared on social media and the reason for this has been the use of social media by railway employees.

According to railway sources, it has been recognized that public trust in the department will be broken due to the dissemination of sensitive information through social media in this way, and in addition, corporate discipline will be severely compromised.

According to this new circular, the official information of the Railway Department can be given to an outside party or the media, only to the Railway General Manager, the Railway Official Media Spokesperson and the Information Officer.
