Work on a new electric train project covering Colombo city and its suburbs is scheduled to begin next year, says Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath.
He said that the basic plans for the launch of the new train service have already been prepared, and that the new train service is scheduled to start from Maradana, and that the government’s aim is to provide the public with more efficient and advanced transport facilities.
Accordingly, passengers coming from Beliatta by the ‘Ruhunu Kumari’ train will have the opportunity to get off at Panadura and reach Colombo city by electric train.
He further stated this while participating in a public meeting held in Hambantota.
