A senior Meta executive on Wednesday apologized to Indian IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on behalf of his company for ‘restricting’ a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, foreign media reported.
The video, which shows Prime Minister Modi looking directly at the camera, was uploaded to social media on July 23 at the height of the online protests led by the Cockroach People’s Party (CPP).
The video was temporarily removed from Meta’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and later restored. Meta also apologized, saying that the incident was not intentional but a technical error.
“On behalf of Meta, I apologize to the minister for the error in limiting Prime Minister Modi’s post,” Joel Kaplan, Meta’s chief global affairs officer, said in a statement.
A team of senior Meta executives, including Joel Kaplan, met with senior officials, including S. Krishnan, secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and held discussions for about 45 minutes
