The Department of Meteorology has issued a statement regarding today that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in many areas of the island today (05).
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
The statement also states that some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts may experience fairly heavy rain exceeding 75 mm. Meanwhile, the statement further states that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at places in the Uva and Eastern provinces as well as in the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 pm.
Also, strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are possible in the North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and Northwestern provinces. The Meteorological Department urges the public to take necessary safety measures as temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thundershowers may cause damage.
