“Army on alert amid heavy rains,” says Army Commander.

The Sri Lanka Army is ready to respond to any emergency caused by the current rainy weather, according to Army Commander Lieutenant General Nilanta Premaratne.

The Army Commander said that, as in previous disaster situations, all army camps have been placed on alert. Troops have also been kept ready for search and rescue operations.

He added that yesterday, the Army safely rescued several people who were trapped in a few houses due to a flash flood in the Kotagala area. He also said that specially trained troops have been deployed to key locations to protect people from any emergency situations that may arise. He made this statement at a special media briefing held today by the Government Information Department.
