Expired chemical stocks seized from private hospitals and laboratories

The Consumer Affairs Authority has launched a program to subject all private hospitals and medical laboratories to an emergency inspection to ensure the health and safety of the public.

Under the program, 52 raids have been carried out covering all districts. During the raids, the investigating officers have been able to uncover a number of serious irregularities regarding medical laboratory materials used for patient testing and treatment.

During the raids, several serious violations have been observed, such as certain laboratory materials and equipment used for patient testing being unusable due to their expiration date, quality issues, and expired materials being stored together with materials in use.

Glucometer Test Kits, Dengue Rapid Test Kits, various types of laboratory chemicals, ECG/Ultrasound Gel used for heart patients, various dye solutions and chemicals used for medical tests were found in inappropriate conditions.

Legal action is to be taken against the relevant private hospitals and laboratories under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act for the storage and use of unsuitable and expired chemicals.
