Vrai Balthasar prioritizes entertainment in Colombo.

The Colombo Municipal Council has gazetted the revised entertainment tax rates, and accordingly, the entertainment tax rates for cinemas, sports competitions, concerts and several other entertainment sectors have been reduced.

The new tax rates have been approved under the 2026 budget of the Colombo Municipal Council and have now come into effect with the publication of the relevant gazette notification.

Among the major amendments made, the entertainment tax for concerts featuring local artists has been reduced to 7%, while a 10% tax has been imposed on concerts featuring foreign artists. A 7% entertainment tax will be levied on cinema tickets, and a 7% tax on local sports competitions.

The Mayor of Colombo, Vrai Kelly Balthazar, said that this step was taken to create more opportunities for the public to enjoy entertainment, culture and sports while supporting Sri Lanka’s creative industry. .
