The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of former Navy Commander Fleet of the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, who was arrested on corruption charges.
The Bribery Commission arrested the former Navy Commander on suspicion of corruption by changing the Navy’s recruitment system to enable Yoshitha Rajapaksa to join the Sri Lanka Navy as an executive cadet in 2006 and arranging for Yoshitha Rajapaksa to attend a training course at the Royal Naval College in Britain at government expense.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order after considering the arguments presented by Bribery Commission officials and the suspect’s lawyers.
