Foreign media reports that the number of monks killed in a road accident in Mukdahan province in northeastern Thailand has risen to 8.
A group of monks who were on a walk were hit by a cab driven by an 11-year-old minor, and the accident resulted in the death of eight monks and the serious injuries of 13 others, according to Thai police.
Five monks died on the spot and three others died in hospital in the accident that occurred in the Ban Na Si Nuan area of Mueang district yesterday afternoon.
Initial police investigations have confirmed that the cab driver who caused the accident was an 11-year-old minor, who drove the vehicle without the permission of his parents or guardian and caused the fatal accident
