Drunkards are filling the treasury.

The excise revenue earned by the Excise Department as of March 31, 2026 was Rs. 70.4 billion, exceeding the revenue target of Rs. 61.95 billion set for the first quarter of 2026.

Commenting on this, Excise Commissioner General M. B. N. A. Premaratne said that the increase in excise revenue is due to the proper guidance of the government and the full commitment of excise officers of all ranks.

Furthermore, the Commissioner General of Excise further stated that strategies such as constant strict monitoring of liquor factories and distilleries, affixing security seals (stickers) on liquor bottles, intensifying investigations and expanding raids on illegally produced liquor, subjecting liquor factories and licensed premises to constant inspections, and strictly enforcing the law have been very helpful in securing excise revenue.
