There is no reason to increase the price of rice for the New Year season, says Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne, as there is sufficient rice stock in the country.
The Deputy Minister commented to the media regarding the ongoing increase in rice prices.
“We have surplus stocks of Nadu rice. There is only a minor problem with Kiri Samba. But steps have been taken to manage the supply. Therefore, this price increase must be due to the increase in transportation and fuel costs.”
